The Petaluma Project
Chartered in 1858, Petaluma is one of California's oldest cities with much of its downtown on the National Register of Historic places. During the Gold Rush Days, Petaluma shipped game, produce and agricultural products down the Petaluma River to San Francisco and Oakland. In terms of commerce, the Petaluma River was once the third busiest in all of California. Before Europeans arrived, the area was settled by the Coastal Miwok native people who named the settlement Petaluma from their phrase for "Valley of little hills." There is much to catch the eye in Petaluma today. These are the first scenes in my "Petaluma Project" which expect to occupy me for years to come. Click on an image to
